A little tip, from me to you.
People named after the four seasons (no, not the music group), are not actually amused when you make a play off their name.

"Ah, Summer, I wish you were here."

"Summer, make it be summer!"

"Summer, huh? Can I call you" cheeky pause "Winter? What about Autumn?"

"It's a little bit cold to be called Summer, don't you think?"

... And so on.

I have bad news for you if you've said any of the above, or its variants: You're NOT witty. I'm sorry, but you're not. That small smile on my face that you see when you're saying these really stupid things? Yeah, it's me holding back from hitting you over the head with a bat.

Current Mood: annoyed annoyed

That's when you give your loudest fake laughter and comment with an equally insincere voice, "GEE. I HAVE NEVER EVER EVER HEARD THAT one before!!" Then just walk away. That usually shuts them up.

My name is Cat. It's short for Catherine, but I don't like going by Catherine or Cathy really. I was always sick of people misspelling my name with a K. So, if I figured if I shorten it to "C-A-T", people will spell it correctly, right? I mean, come on... we learned how to spell Cat in KINDERGARTEN. It didn't work. Yay for American schools.

ANYWAY, (Yeah, there's a point hiding in here somewhere), I constantly get meowed at.. or I get words that begin with Cat. Catatonic, etc...

So yeah, I totally relate to you.

You should change your name to Solstice. Then most people wouldn't have the slightest clue as to what your name means. ^_^

Unfortunately, the majority of people that do/have done that to me are people I work with or work for, or are customers. If they don't fit into those three categories, I usually just deadpan at them. That tends to shut them up too!

And *cough* I would spell "Cat" "Kat" if I thought it was someone's name. But I blame that on the norm of how it's spelled for someone's name! ^^;

*Snort* Actually, it's why I went with my middle name for a while in high school. Problem is, my middle name is... out of the norm. (Kiska) I decided Summer was far better than people constantly making kissing noises at me. Ugh. People are stupid.

I completely agree...

Name puns are highly overated. Sorry if I've ever used one when with your name - I think I did at New Years, but I blame the alcohol. I often get all sorts of things that rhyme with Larry - like blueberry, hairy, fairy...etc. My favorite, and by favorite I mean least favorie is Larry, Larry, quite contrary how does your garden grow? I usually respond with a blank stare and a little sarcastic chuckle :)

Re: I completely agree...

Hrm, I don't recall you doing that on New Years.

And ugh, I can't believe people are still doing that after leaving grade school. I mean, seriously, simple rhyming on someone's name? Laaaaaame.

Your name must be Summer because you're so effing hot! But seriously, I have no idea what you're talking about. You think having a noun is bad, try having an adjective.

See, now that's the sort of name play I don't mind at all. *Snuggle*

You think having a noun is bad, try having an adjective.

Oh, I don't doubt that sucks for you. Though, I pride myself on never messing with your name like that! If you think about it, this post is really to stand up for all of us out there that have names that make people suddenly retarded.

I have to post to this because my name ALWAYS is made fun of. It will inevitably be one of two: "Luke, I am you father." or "Come to the Darkside, Luke." Growing up it was always Luke-Duke, or Luke-puke, or one of a million more....just, it wouldn't be soo bad if I actually remembered most of those movies.

Yeah, the Star Wars thing is awful. ... Okay, all of it is awful, but I literally cringe when I hear some jackass say that to you.
