Okay, this may sound weird, but I'm trying to get down what the main characters in my novel, well, smell like. Ya know, the scent that carries with them. Whether it's vanilla or pure "manliness", whatever. So, I'm curious... What is *your* favorite scent on the gender(s) that you're attracted? Even still, if you like a certain scent on one that you're *not* attracted to, by all means, shoot that out too! I'd make a poll, but I don't want to limit you, so comment away! Mostly people in their natural, unscented state smell of sweat or what they last ate.
Otherwise, it depends what time it is. In the morning men smell of too much aftershave, and women of too much perfume. In the late drowsy afternoons, they can smell of sun-warmed skin and clean hair and vaguely fruity, vaguely jasmine, vaguely spicy yum.
If it's for your characters, go down to the department store and start sniffing perfume samples. Pick a distinct one for each of your characters, write it down somewhere, and refer back to it. For long-haired characters, pick a smell for shampoo, too.
And, so help me god, if you pull a LKH and refer to people as having vanilla scented skin every two pages, I'm going to shoot you. For your own good.
