My own meme! Look at me being creative! Or, well, maybe just bitter.
After being forced to watch another volume of Maburaho, I've decided I really need to make a list of my top ten most hated anime characters of all time. And so, because I could, I wrote it all out for you to enjoy! So, uh, enjoy!

Top 10 Most Hated Anime Characters for Summer:

1. Yuna Miyama - Maburaho
2. Anju Kitahara - Marmalade Boy
3. Mihoshi Kuramitsu - Tenchi
4. Kagura - Inuyasha
5. Ascot - Magic Knight Rayearth
6. Donovan Baine - Night Warrior's: Darkstalker's Revenge
7. Mistress Potamos - Wedding Peach
8. Ayeka Jurai - Tenchi
9. Shinobu Maehara - Love Hina
10. Yuka Kikushima - Geobreeders

1. Yuna Miyama - Maburaho (Every time this woman almost dies, I cheer, yes, CHEER for it to happen. "LET HER DIE" I cry out to the screen. Alas, it never comes to pass. Well, as of yet. I'm not giving up hope! There is nothing in this world I hate more than someone clingy and needy. And that's what Yuna is. She clings to the main character like a second skin, proclaiming she's his wife, forcing him to let her stay with him, but yet attempting to be the 'innocent and cute' anime character that he should eventually fall all over in love with. Ugh, disgusting. I'm sorry, but no man in his right mind would find that attractive! LET HER DIE FOR THE LOVE OF THE GODS.)

2. Anju Kitahara - Marmalade Boy (Here's that damn 'innocent and cute' anime girl crap again. She's not EITHER of those things. She's a manipulative ho-bag. Why oh WHY could this girl not have died in the operating room???)

3. Mihoshi Kuramitsu - Tenchi (Have a guess? Why yes, she *would* be the 'innocent and cute' anime girl type. Oh look at Mihoshi doing another silly/stupid thing with her cute little bunny tail. Tee hee. DIE, MIHOSHI, DIE.)

4. Kagura - Inuyasha (Oh, thank the gods, FINALLY an anime girl that I hate that isn't intended to be innocent or cute. But I hate her anyway. It's the way she talks, the way she moves, I can't quite explain it besides the fact that her mere presence makes me have violent thoughts. Well, and she hurt Koga. BUT, even before that I hated her. The Koga thing just clinched it. ... Bitch.)

5. Ascot - Magic Knight Rayearth (Yay! The first of two males on this list! As an annoying boy with bangs that hides his eyes, which makes me CRAZY, he drove me nuts. But he was a villain, so I knew that eventually he would die and I would cheer. HIS DEAD BODY SHOULD HAVE BEEN SHOWN ON THE GROUND SO I COULD CHEER IN THE SIGHT OF HIS BLOOD. But nooooo, he had to turn all good and crap. Even worse, he decides to come back in season two as an annoying young man to ruin my Umi/Clef ship! Grrr.)

6. Donovan Baine - Night Warrior's: Darkstalker's Revenge (Wow, look at the two boys on the list being right next to each other! There is only one good thing about Donavan Baine - Anita. It's the only reason I can stand to watch his scenes. I can understand creating a character that despises half of his heritage, but... does he have to be so damn annoying? Come on Anita, smack him over the head with your doll's headless body! It'll be fun, I promise!)

7. Mistress Potamos - Wedding Peach (Okay, when Chichiri from Fushigi Yugi constantly goes off with his "Ya know?s" it's slightly annoying, but the character begins to grow on you... well, he did on me, and so I began to find it cute instead of annoying. Potamos... can't pull it off as cute. And she's clingy. Oh man, is she clingy. And if we recall from earlier on this hate list, clingy is a BIG no no where Summer is concerned. Gods, it's sickening. At least she wasn't a constant regular.)

8. Ayeka Jurai - Tenchi ('Innocent and cute' once again! More like a spoiled, arrogant brat to me. It doesn't help that Tenchi seems to side more with her than Ryoko, which makes me even more ill. It pleases me that Ryoko puts her in her place often enough, but she returns the favor just as much which always makes me glower. Blast her, Ryoko! BLAST HER DEAD.)

9. Shinobu Maehara - Love Hina ('INNOCENT AND CUTE'. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, MAKE THAT TYPE OF ANIME CHARACTER GO FAR FAR AWAY. And just like Anju, she has the 'poor me' card to play to boot. Ugh, spare me. The main character does not want you! Give up and find someone your own age, EW.)

10. Yuka Kikushima - Geobreeders (Okay, all of the female characters belonging to the cat killing organization are bitches, but being the queen bee definitely proves her to be the biggest bitch of them all. Now, understand, I like a bit of bitch in my anime woman, but she goes way too far. At least the main character doesn't find her at all attractive in her bitchiness, so even though she's somewhat showing an interest in him, I doubt it'll happen. Go for the cop, Taba!)

Ayeka's innocent and cute? O_o

Ditto reaction. Don't you mean Sasami? She's the young, innocent, cute, blue-haired, awesome cook, secretly immensely powerful one (seeing as she's a spaceship or... something). I didn't like her.

I actually liked Ayeka. She's not innocent and cute as far as *I* could tell, and she certainly seems to respect Tenchi a lot more than Ryoko, who will take advantage of him (and everyone else) at the first opportunity and is primarily interested only in herself. It's been a long time since I saw any Tenchi series, but I rooted for Ayaka much more than Ryoko, who's totally the fan favorite. (Lying and manipulation is okay if it gets her what she wants, because she's so cool and not all stuck up like Ayeka and is a pirate!)

Ayeka certainly comes across with a sense of entitlement, but given she's a princess and all, and she does have something of a claim to Tenchi, that's more a reasonable personality flaw than something that would grate on me constantly.

To answer you both...

Yes, Sasami IS innocent and cute. But that's what she actually IS. What I'm talking about is characters that attempt either themselves or by the writers to be so, but either failing or being very annoying as they go about it.

Ayake is shown time and again as being the princess of virtue. Always blushing around Tenchi because of some circumstance (like in the TV series when she accidentally falls against him), etc. Which, in itself isn't so bad (well, I roll my eyes, but still), but I'm trying to explain where I'm getting the innocent and cute from.

Personally, I don't find Ayake to have any claim to Tenchi because she's a princess. His grandfather in the OAVs, maybe, but certainly not Tenchi. And uh, guess I never really noted that she thought that.

Anyway, I'm not a debater. The girl grates me, Ryoko should rule the world, and I'm going to go take a shower.

Showerness is goodness.

I was always under the impression that Tenchi being of royal blood meant he was expected to marry into the royal family. And Ayeka is used to getting her way, being a princess and all. Regardless, I didn't feel she pressed the issue unnecessarily. And at least she didn't pull a Ryoko. "Oh, this is Tenchi and my CHILD!" "Don't mind me, Tenchi. I'm just groping you without asking, and we barely know each other."

Mind, I understand *why* Ryoko's a fan favorite. She's blunt, charismatic, has cool powers, and goes for what she wants. I just think she oversteps her bounds by large degrees all of the time, and she gets away with it because she's Ryoko. By the way, murdering and pillaging? Okay because she's Ryoko!

That's what grates on me. Perhaps I shouldn't apply real world principles to an anime like this. I'm not trying to debate, just make my point. ;P (Is that the same thing? Oh well.)

Have you seen the third Tenchi movie, by the way?
damienroc From: damienroc Date: September 16th, 2005 04:57 pm (UTC) (Link)
I've always rather liked Ayeka... for many of the same reasons that I like Umi. She's more layered and complex than the other characters in the show, and it's rather sad that she's in an anime where most of the other characters are all some degree of flatness.

I remember when I first saw Tenchi... getting close to about nine years ago, now. It was fun. We watched through the first six eps, and that made a nice enough series. Everything since then has been downhill. Tenchi hasn't aged well at all (with the exception of GXP, which - as far as I've seen - works rather well.)

El Hazard, though, is still good after all these years.

Oh yeah, I completely agree with you on Ryoko going too far at times. Believe me, there are times when I've put my face in my hand and shook my head and said, "Ryoko, you're making me look bad for being on your side, damnit!"

But I think I have some strange soft spot for "bad" guys (Not *all* the time, mind). Either the ones that are supposed to be the antagonist, or the ones on the good side, but you're not quite sure how they got there. (Like how Koga in Inuyasha is suddenly all right in most everyone's book even though he ordered an entire village destroyed as his introduction to the series... and I love him anyway.)

I did see the third movie! Umm, that's the one where Tenchi gets amnesia and draws Ryoko's hair, right? I saw all three movies right after the other, so I tend to get them mixed up.

(Also, Kiyone should totally rule the world. Dude!)

Ha! Now THAT is something I can jump on board with!

Nicolas Comment

Nic would comment, but he can't since this journal doesn't allow anonymous posting. But I figure you wouldn't mind what he has to say, which is...

"I agree 100% about Shinobu. Naru may be pure evil, but I can tolerate her with just dislike if I view her as a villain. Shinobu bugs me every time she's on screen. That I'm-so-vulnerable-boo-hoo-protect-me-before-I-cry act just grates. I want to tell her to just shut up, already."

He means it, too. He's been ranting at me about Shinobu for days, now, and I haven't even seen Love Hina!
