Cyclops VS Wolverine! - GROWL — LiveJournal
Cyclops VS Wolverine!
So, as per usual, I was having an argument with coldfury over comics a couple days ago. Or, well, in this case, over a comic-made-into-a-movie. We had just finished watching the X-Men 3 preview where Jean asks Wolverine to kill her (note: this isn't a spoiler, this is in the PREVIEW. So THERE.).

I told Mr. Fury that there was no way Wolverine would kill Jean. He loves her too much. And even though the world would be in trouble with Phoenix, he still wouldn't be able to do it.

It escalated to:

Him: No way. Wolverine would definitely do it! He has a responsibility to the team. Cyclops on the other hand, he wouldn't be able to do it. They're in love and that would be too hard for him.

Me: *Snort* Come on, Cyclops so would. He has that whole 'I'm a leader, that has to make me cool!' thing going on. He'd kill her for the betterment of humankind and all that junk. Now Wolverine, he couldn't do it. He's like Spike in the second episode of season six where he mentions that the group didn't tell him they were resurrecting Buffy because even if she came back wrong, Spike wouldn't allow her to be destroyed. There's no way he could hurt Jean.

... And it went on and on and on from there. So, he told me I should make a poll. And since I have a couple minutes to breathe, I give you one! An X-Men poll! You people seem to love those!

Poll #690463 Cyclops versus Wolverine.

In X-Men 3, who is more likely to kill Jean if she were to ask them to when she goes all Phoenix on the group?

Cyclops - He loves her, but he's also the leader. He has a responsibility to the group.
Wolverine - He loves her, but he's dedicated to not being dead along with plenty of others.
Neither - They both love her and would never EVER kill the woman they love... even if it would mean lots and lots of destruction.
Both of them - they're going to have to draw straws to decide which one gets the honor.
Oooh oooh! Pick me! Pick me! I'll off her!

Hate to tell you this, but Logan's killed her in canon. Multiple times, in fact, at her request.

[...] That's... stupid.

I'm sorry, but I don't buy it. Canon or not.

Dude, if I was brought back from the dead by a crazy deity who used my body and powers to commit genocide, I would totally want a friend I could trust enough to kill me too.

Wolverine doesn't do it because he doesn't love Jean. He does it because he *does* love her. He loves her so much he heeds her wishes, even when it breaks his heart.

Well... Marvel's recent actions regarding the X-men storyline does lead me to believe that they're trying to excise anything that Grant Morrison wrote (most notably anything regarding Magneto, but also a lot of his developments for the entire society of mutants). From that, you could disbelieve that Wolvie killed Jean. However, I don't think that they're trying to remove any of it from canon, just trying to get it out of reader memory. (Pity, really.)

I shall both erase it from canon AND my memory! Mwahahahahahaha!

But... Morrison's run was the best, um, ever on an X-book. ;_;

If Morrison was the one that had Wolverine kill Jean, I have to very much disagree with you there. ;P

I say Cyclops. He does have all that honor and duty crap that he is so up on. Now we would also most likely have to hear him whin about it for the next half an hour. But our boy would off her, of course with more whining.

You, I keep. ^_^

Snerk. I still think Wolvie's more likely? But you are so right on that it would be the perfect opportunity for MORE HORRIBLE LEADER WANGST. It's not like her death wouldn't cause HORRIBLE LEADER WANGST on its own, but tack on him doing it and it's so much more! How can they pass it up?
