I've never read anything by Kurt Vonnegut. It's not an insult to him, he's just not really in the genre I like to read. But after reading in a psych book about the moral that drove his novel, Mother Knight, I'm now starting to consider picking it up.

The moral Vonnegut had for his book was:

"We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be."

That just brought me to a halt when I read that.

Mmm, deep.

Current Mood: thoughtful thoughtful

I've read some of his books, though can never remember if it is Kurt Vonnegut Jr. or not. I think the Father was a writer too, so the son went by Jr, then years later the son started under just Kurt Vonnegut. Something confusing like that. Ever read Ice-9? It is by him, fun book. About the end of the world and all that. So many incomplete sentences. Have I mentioned that my work has moved me to 10 hour days? A co-worker said that they should have a place were we can keep a change of clothes. Honestly, say I sleep 8 hours (psstf, yeah right, but let's just pick a number okay?) and I work 10 hours that day, now add in 1 hour for lunch they make me take, that's 19 hours out of a 24 hour day not including drive-time, getting ready for work, or anything else. Now in one of Kurt's books (see how this neatly ties in?) I might start seeing aliens in the 4th dimension while the book takes psycho leaps foward and backward in time every chapter. I liked that book. Another great book similar to his is Catch-22. great book too. -_-

Oh my. Please tell me you're working four ten-hour days a week and nothing more! Otherwise, that is very very harsh!

I haven't read either of the books you mentioned... Though I hear Catch-22 is one of those novels everyone should check out. (I also hear Vonnegut is notorious for insane sentence structures in his novels. Heidi mentioned one of his books having NO punctuation in it... How she even managed to finish it I will never know.)
