Men stereotypes... and Babel fish!
First off, may I say that I am having one of those moments of regret for not having picked up The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy sooner.

BABEL FISH. *Dies* Oh, how many more discoveries will I make that I never realized were due to this wonderful piece of fiction!

Okay, now that that's out of the way, let's talk about a growing pet peeve of mine...

'Afraid to Commit: Young Men Want to Wait on Marriage'

It's articles like this that just piss me off. Gods, it seems that every other week on msn.com there's some article about men and how they're scared of commitment. "Oh noes, marriage! I have a penis! RUN."

There was only one positive thing to note about this entire article. And that's what this woman had to say:

"The article 'Afraid to Commit: Young Men Want to Wait on Marriage' makes all women sound like they are desperate to "hook" a man! It insinuates that this is all women live for and men have total reign over this. Please get with the times!"

Fact: Men in studies have been found to be happier in marriages than women.

Fact: Divorced men have a higher chance of remarrying than divorced women. (Of course, the chances of divorce increase each marriage...)

Fact Jung found that when women first marry they go through a 'small death'. A sort of mini depression, if you will.

Maybe you people who write these articles should consider writing a new article. In fact, let me help you out with a title: 'Afraid to Commit: As Financial Dependency Dissolves, How Many Women Will Say 'I Do'?.'

Current Mood: annoyed annoyed

On an entirely different aside, we totally need to link that Dove commercial somewhere. The http://www.campaignforrealbeauty.com/ thing (which is also on Youtube.)

Yes! Thank you!

Okay, I made a post to Hathor that will show up Sunday morning! (As that was my day of the week to post.)

You did??? YAY!!!

Anyway, AMEN to your post here. Men, while performing as the artist known as The Patriarchy, CREATED marriage. We didn't invent it. Since when have we been allowed to invent any major cultural traditions?

And not every men who refrains from marriage is a commitment phobe. Not every women who refrains is unable to get a man. Some of us just don't think it's our bag.

Hey! I found you through a comment on packmentality and like that you read. Hitchhikers is a wonderful book and so are the sequels and the BBC series. I never did see the movie. And I feel the same way about Piers Anthony.

Hello there! I appreciate the note!

Yes, I'm loving on Douglas Adams! I'm onto The Restaurant at the End of the Universe. I believe Zaphod is officially my favorite character!

I checked out your journal and it sounds like we have plenty in common. Heroes, Buffy-verse, reading... So, yes, I shall friend you back. ^_^

I can't say that my friends-only posts are all that interesting. In fact, they're usually where I stick my grr or emo, but with that warning in mind... have at it. ^_~

(Note: I had to post with this LJ icon just for you after noting you write fanfiction. *Cough*)

That has to be the worst cliche in Buffy fanfiction. I literally cringe when I come across it.

Oh yes!

Most of the Buffy fanfiction I read is Buffy/Spike, so you can imagine how often I come across this!
