Dr. Jerk: Yes, I was wondering if X has come in yet.
Me: I don't know, but let me check for you. *Checks* I'm sorry, but it sounds like there haven't been any new admits today.
Dr. J: No, she should be there already.
Me: Oh, I see, let me check my list. Ah, okay, here she is. Let m-
Dr. J: Look, I need blah blah blah, don't understand what you're saying as I'm not medically licensed, blah blah blah. So, why don't you just go ahead and get that figured out and I'll call back.
Me: ... I'm sorry, but I can't do that. I'm in the business office, not on one of the teams. I can, however, page that nursing station for you.
Dr. J: *Sighs* I really don't have time to be on hold.
Me: *In my head* And I don't have time to be talking to you or taking care of your issues, so go fuck off. *What she really says:* One moment, please. *Puts him through to the team. Which, by the way, immediately answers. Hmph.*
This may seem weird... but I felt a sense of victory not letting him push me around, just because he has 'Dr.' in front of his name. It really pisses me off the sort of attitude doctors pull when I'm on the phone with them. Like their time is any more precious than someone else's. Yes yes, you're a doctor. You rarely sleep, have ten other things you need to be doing, etc. I get that. But you know what? YOU chose the field knowing full well that was how it was going to be.
So get that pocketbook out of your ass and remember that other people have just as much right to respect as you do.
